A Proud Son of Jersey City, Committed to Serving Ward D
Born and raised in Jersey City’s Heights neighborhood, Yousef J. Saleh’s journey reflects the spirit and resilience of the community he serves. As the son of Palestinian immigrants who came to America in search of opportunity, Yousef understands the challenges and aspirations of Ward D families. He’s committed to making Jersey City a place where everyone has a chance to thrive.
A Strong Advocate and Proven Leader
Yousef’s dedication to public service began early. He attended local schools like P.S. #28 and McNair Academic High School, where he served as a student representative to the Jersey City Board of Education. He continued his leadership journey at Rutgers University, where he was the first democratically elected student body president across all five campuses and later graduated from Rutgers Law School, serving as President of the Student Bar Association.
Today, Yousef brings his skills as a fraud investigator and anti-money laundering specialist to his role as Ward D Councilman, helping protect both his constituents and his city. He’s passionate about giving back, providing pro bono financial counseling to local small businesses and volunteering with numerous community organizations throughout the Heights.
Carrying on a Legacy of Service
In May 2020, Yousef was appointed to the Ward D Council seat following the tragic passing of Councilman Michael Yun. Determined to honor Yun’s legacy, Yousef worked tirelessly to support the community, from distributing PPE to protect residents during the COVID-19 pandemic to championing initiatives that strengthen community resources, support local businesses, and enhance public spaces. In recognition of his dedication, the people of Ward D elected him to continue as their councilman, solidifying their trust in his vision and leadership.
Dedicated to Building a Brighter Future for Ward D
Yousef is running to continue the work he started, focused on creating a safer, more vibrant Ward D where every voice is heard. Working closely with Mayor Steven Fulop, he is committed to moving the Heights and all of Jersey City forward. As a strong advocate for families, especially those with children who have special needs, he understands the importance of inclusive and responsive leadership.
